がる (Acts like / Shows signs of)

Turns an internal adjective (like ()しい - want) into an observation of someone else’s behavior.

Drop い and add がる.

()しい → ()しがるacts like they want
(さび)しい → (さび)しがるacts lonely
(こわ)い → (こわ)がるacts scared

Examples

彼女(かのじょ)(あたら)しいバッグを()しがっている。She's acting like she wants a new bag.
子供(こども)(くら)いところを(こわ)がる。The child is scared of dark places.
(かれ)(いち)(にん)(さび)しがっている。He's acting lonely being alone.

がち (Tends to - negative)

Negative habit or tendency. Add がち to verb stem or noun.

(わす)れがちtends to forget
病気(びょうき)がちtends to get sick
(おく)れがちtends to be late

Examples

最近(さいきん)約束(やくそく)(わす)れがちだ。Lately, I tend to forget appointments.
(かれ)子供(こども)(ころ)から病気(びょうき)がちだった。He tended to get sick since childhood.
(あさ)のバスは(おく)れがちだ。The morning bus tends to be late.
