There are many levels of politeness when asking for things in Japanese.

1. ~てください

Standard request. “Please do…”

()べてください。Please eat.
ここに(すわ)ってください。Please sit here.
(しず)かにしてください。Please be quiet.

2. ~てちょうだい (Casual / Feminine)

Similar to ください but more casual.

()ってちょうだい。Wait, please.
()てちょうだい。Look, please.
ここに()てちょうだい。Come here, please.

3. ~なさい (Command / Authoritative)

Used by parents to children or teachers to students.

()べなさい。Eat!
(はや)()なさい。Go to bed early!
宿題(しゅくだい)をしなさい。Do your homework!

4. ~しろ / ~ろ (Rough Command)

Very rough, used informally or in emergencies.

()べろ!Eat!
(だま)れ!Shut up!
()ろ!Look!

Asking for Permission

Structure: て-form + も + いい + ですか?

()べてもいいですか?May I eat?
写真(しゃしん)()ってもいいですか?May I take a photo?
(はい)ってもいい?Can I come in? (casual)
