Two very common verbs for describing change are する (to do/make) and なる (to become).

なる (To Become)

Used with the particle に (for nouns/na-adj) or く (for i-adj).

With Nouns / Na-adjectives

Add に before なる.

先生(せんせい)になる。Become a teacher.

きれいになる。Become pretty/clean.

静(しず)かになった。It became quiet.

With I-adjectives

Drop the い and add く.

熱(あつ)くなる。Become hot.

大(おお)きくなった。It became big.

暗(くら)くなってきた。It's getting dark.

する (To Make / Decide)

Used similarly with に or く to mean making something act in that way, or deciding on something.

“To Make”

部屋(へや)をきれいにする。Make the room clean.

音(おと)を大(おお)きくする。Make the sound louder.

テレビを静(しず)かにする。Make the TV quiet.

“To Decide on”

これにします。I will decide on this one. (Ordering at a restaurant)

コーヒーにします。I'll have coffee.

明日(あした)にしましょう。Let's make it tomorrow.
