より (More than)

Indicates the standard of comparison.

これはあれよりおいしい。 - This is more delicious than that.
電車はバスより速い。 - Trains are faster than buses.

ほう (The side of)

Indicates preference or specific properties of one side.

このほうがおいしい。 - This one is more delicious.
こっちのほうがいい。 - This way is better.
夏のほうが好き。 - I prefer summer.
